“Writ against Quranic beliefs may incite tension”

The controversial Writ petition filed by Deb Narayan Moheshwar in reference to Islamic practice of Qurbani (sacrifice) may incite religious and communal tension in society, feared Islamic religious groups and parties.

Fight of nerve among the two communities' youths has already been reflected in the web-based social sites even face to face conversations in some cases since filing of the Writ with High Court on August 1, according to the sources.Removing "Absolute trust and faith in Allah" from the Constitution and the Writ challenging purity of the Holy Quran are tied with the same rope as a part of great conspiracies against Islam, Islamic parties' leaders alleged.

They also strongly criticised silence of the government on the matter.

Conscious sections of society expressed their concern over the issue saying that such kind of instigating acts would inspire the extremists to commit violent activities in the country.

Earlier on August 1 last, Deb Narayan Moheshwar, President of Bishwa Shanti Parishad, filed a Writ petition with the High Court Division of the Supreme challenging the Muslims' religious functions that they believed and observed for thousands of years.

Narayan, a believer of Hindu religion, in his petition sought the HC's direction that Hazrat Ibrahim (As), the father of the Muslim nation, was about to sacrifice Hazrat Ishak (As) not Hazrat Ismail (As).

He also prayed the court's explanation on the matter, its direction to change lessons of the curriculum texts in educational institutions as per his demands, and purity of the Holy Qur'an about it.

The bench of HC Division comprising Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah and Justice Md Rezaul Haque accepted the petition, heard on it and set for further hearing and delivering its order on the matter.

The Muslims as per their beliefs- - Hazrat Ibrahim (As), receiving direction from Almighty Allah, was about to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (As)- - observed Eid-ul-Azha once a year and sacrifice animals as a symbol of sacrificing themselves for their creator.

However, Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Muhammad Ishak, talking to The New Nation, expressed his anxiety of hatching conspiracy to spread communal violence and destroying peace in the country through such acts.

A human chain under the banner of different Islamic parties would be formed in front of the National Press Club protesting as they say the 'conspiracy', he said.

Different Islamic political parties strongly protested and condemned the move of Narayan against the verses of the Holy Quran.

They demanded exemplary punishment to Narayan for his alleged blaspheme.

Even, a case was filed with the court of Tangali district's Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Faizunnesa seeking its arrest warrant against Deb Narayan Moheshwar for hurting Muslims' sentiment. Advocate Abdul Karim Mia lodged the case.

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in a press release said the Writ hit the Muslims' faith (Iman).

He was surprised to see the acceptance of the Writ by a court in Bangladesh having 90 percent Muslim population. Regarding this issue, he said such type of Writ challenging the Holy Quran was rejected by the High Court of India where Hindus form the majority.

Islami Movement Bangladesh (IMB) leaders termed the issue as part of prolonged conspiracies of the Christians and the Jews against Islam.

They demanded quick arrest of Narayan and his exemplary punishment for dishonoring the Holy Quran.

Islami Solidarity Movement (ISM) demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to Narayan and urged the people of the country to stand against this kind of sacrilege.
